A concrete slab, made for the support to beautification pots on the Mahim connector fell down on Wednesday at Bandra. However, no one was injured.
After the incident, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) decided to remove all such types of concrete slabs from the flyover known as the Mahim connector.
Officials said that the flyover structure is completely safe, but it has decided to remove slab for precautionary measures.
Confirming the development, a senior officer of MSRDC said, "To support the beautification pots kept on the flyover between both lanes around 200 such types of concrete slabs ( size 1.4 × 2 meters) have been kept, but to avoid such type incidence in future, we decided to remove all concrete these slabs now".
However, Mumbaikar are blaming poor maintenance and quality of the concrete slab for the incident.
"What action will be taken on concerned officials? This is a dereliction of duty due to poor maintenance and upkeep( sic)," tweeted Juzer Hakim.
"So sad, In improving Mumbai no human safety & contractors are free for violations," tweeted Dharmapal Thul.
"Before putting such type of concrete slab on flyovers engineers need to check design and quality of the slab twice otherwise it could be fatal," said a retired engineer of MSRDC who didn't want to be quoted.
